Born and raised in Panama, Dr. Nadilia Gomez learned about Nobel Peace Prize Winner Dr. Norman Borlaug when she was just a teenager. Inspired by this Iowa native who dedicated his life to solving world hunger, she moved to the Midwest in pursuit of a career in ag innovation. She studied at the University of Minnesota (where she met her idol) and earned an M.S. in Plant Biological Sciences and a Ph.D. in Applied Plant Sciences with an emphasis on Plant Breeding and Molecular Genetics. Unconvinced that the limitations to solving world hunger were purely scientific in nature, she expanded her studies to the business development aspects of food, ag and biosystems industries with an Executive MBA from Iowa State University and participation in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Regional Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program.

Dr. Gomez has extensive experience working in diverse organizations connected to plant science and agriculture. At DuPont Pioneer, Dr. Gomez worked with scientists and software developers to create novel digital precision ag solutions. At the Iowa AgriTech Accelerator, she helped national and international agtech entrepreneurs test and develop their business ideas in Iowa. Currently, Dr. Gomez is the CTO for the Digital and Precision Ag Biosciences Platform at Iowa State University and helps innovators commercialize agriculture technologies. She works closely with BioConnect Iowa, a public-private economic development partnership promoting bioscience innovation, prioritizing relevant opportunities for economic development in the Digital and Precision Agriculture domain.

Dr. Gomez has served on a variety of teams supporting STEM, agriculture, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She has been an industry representative at the Iowa Governor’s STEM Industry Advisory Council and a mentor for the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute Community Connect Program. She is currently a member of the Ivy Women in Business Advisory Board.

A self-proclaimed “Iowa transplant”, Nadilia spends her free time among plants, gardening.
