Kathryn Kunert joined MidAmerican Energy Company in 1996 with the government affairs department as a legislative grassroots coordinator. During her career, she has had the opportunity to develop and gain additional responsibilities in both government affairs, community relations and economic development. Currently, Kunert is the vice president, economic connections and integration which includes managing assigned accounts, business accounts, business and community development, community relations, energy efficiency, franchises, sponsorships and donations, and special projects.
Kathryn is involved in local, regional and state community and economic development initiatives and is currently serving on:

Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council – Appointed by Governor Branstad in 2015 to serve a four-year term and an executive committee member and reappointed in 2019 to serve another four-year term by Governor Reynolds
Greater Des Moines Partnership – Past chair, current executive committee and board member
Greater Des Moines Regional Economic Development Board – Past chair and current member
Capital Crossroads – Board member
Cultivation Corridor – Charter board member and executive committee
Institute for Decision Making at the University of Northern Iowa – Board member

Kathryn is a graduate of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, a Forty Under 40 class member of 2003, graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy in 2014 and named a Woman of Influence by the Business Record in 2015 and was also named the Forty Under 40 alumnus of the year in 2019.
